The Visit of the Magi
A reading from the Gospel of Saint Matthew 2, 1 – 12:
When Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea, in the days of King Herod, behold, magi from the east arrived in Jerusalem, saying, “Where is the newborn king of the Jews? We saw his star at its rising and have come to do him homage.” When King Herod heard this, he was greatly troubled, and all Jerusalem with him. Assembling all the chief priests and the scribes of the people, he inquired of them where the Messiah was to be born. They said to him, “In Bethlehem of Judea, for thus it has been written through the prophets:
“And you, Bethlehem, land of Judah, are by no means least among the rulers of Judah; since from you shall come a ruler, who is to shepherd my people Israel.”
Then Herod called the magi secretly and ascertained from them the time of the star’s appearance. He sent them to Bethlehem and said, “Go and search diligently for the child. When you have found him, bring me word, that I too may go and do him homage.” After their audience with the king they set out. And behold, the star that they had seen at its rising preceded them, until it came and stopped over the place where the child was. They were overjoyed at seeing the star, and on entering the house they saw the child with Mary his mother. They prostrated themselves and did him homage. Then they opened their treasures and offered him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. And having been warned in a dream not to return to Herod, they departed for their country by another way.
We had another fine day on Wednesday with sunshine the whole day and it was not so cold in the afternoon. We should have sunshine on Thursday morning but by evening we are supposed to have a snowstorm. I hope it does not last very long.
Below you will find the message of Our Lord and Savior given to Father Melvin. Jesus spoke to him these words,
“You know My brother Melvin and all My brothers and sisters that I came into the world for the salvation of all the people not only the Jewish people. When I was born in Jerusalem, the first people who came to do Me homage were the Jews. Our Heavenly Father, however, arrange to have a star appear in the East so that some of the Gentiles would also come to do Me homage. These represented all the non-Jews throughout the world. So these men called Magi saw the star and they knew what it meant that the King of the Jews was born. So they left their country and traveled all the way to Jerusalem. They went to ask King Herod where I had been born but he knew nothing about this. However, the Jewish religious leaders knew and so the king sent them to Bethlehem. They were guided by a star to the steps of the house where I was. They came in and did homage to me and offered great gifts.
Remember what the Magi did was to represent everyone of you who live in all the different countries of the world. They did not return to King Herod to tell him where I lived but they went home by another way. King Herod was angry and he sent the army to Bethlehem to kill all the male infants who had been born from that day to two years before. My parents however took Me and they fled to Egypt and so I escaped death by the army.
My dear friends, I love you all and I came on earth for you all. I came so that you will come to know Me and believe in Me and follow Me so that one day you will be in eternal bliss in heaven. I want all of you to be save. Come and follow Me.”
