Warning against Overconfidence
Dear Friends,
A reading from St. Paul’s First Letter to the Corinthians (10:1-13):
I do not want you to be unaware, brothers, that our ancestors were all under the cloud and all passed through the sea, and all of them were baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea. All ate the same spiritual food, and all drank the same spiritual drink, for they drank from a spiritual rock that followed them, and the rock was the Christ. Yet God was not pleased with most of them, for they were struck down in the desert. These things happened as examples for us, so that we might not desire evil things, as they did. And do not become idolaters, as some of them did, as it is written, “The people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to revel.” Let us not indulge in immorality as some of them did, and twenty-three thousand fell within a single day. Let us not test Christ as some of them did, and suffered death by serpents. Do not grumble as some of them did, and suffered death by the destroyer. These things happened to them as an example, and they have been written down as a warning to us, upon whom the end of the ages has come. Therefore, whoever thinks he is standing secure should take care not to fall. No trial has come to you but what is human. God is faithful and will not let you be tried beyond your strength; but with the trial he will also provide a way out, so that you may be able to bear it.
Yesterday it was mainly cloudy with some rain but the sky cleared in the evening. We should now have nice days for the rest of the week. I am finishing writing the Newsletter of Our Lady of Prince Edward Island. Many are only paid up until the end of June 2012, so if you wish to still receive the Newsletter please send the fee for the next year as soon as possible. The fee is $12.00 for those who live in Canada and $15.00 for those who live in the USA.
(Below you will find the message of Our Lord and Redeemer given to Father Melvin. Jesus spoke to him these words.)
“As Christians you have been blessed, My brother Melvin and all My brothers and sisters scattered throughout the world. It was at your baptism that you were born again as the beloved children of God and My beloved brothers and sisters. It was the same with the Jewish people. When they made their commitment to the Father at the foot of Mount Sinai, they were all blessed by the blood of the animals and became the People of God. The Father took care of them and helped them and I was born from this people. The People of God were prepared for many years to welcome the Messiah, the Savior, who was to be born among them. A good number welcomed Him but many others rejected Him. How do you look at Me, your Savior? Have you offered Me your life and are you following Me? I want you to renew your commitment to Me today. I bless you.”
