The Anointing of Jesus
Dear Friends,
Please read this passage from the Gospel of St. John (12:1-11):
Six days before the Passover Jesus came to Bethany, the home of Lazarus, whom he had raised from the dead. There they gave a dinner for him. Martha served, and Lazarus was one of those at the table with him. Mary took a pound of costly perfume oil made of pure nard, anointed Jesus’ feet, and wiped them with her hair. The house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume. But Judas Iscariot, one of his disciples (the one who was about to betray him), said, “Why was this perfume not sold for three hundred pence and the money given to the poor? “ He said this not because he cared about the poor, but because he was a thief; he kept the common purse and used to steal what was put into it.) Jesus said, “Leave her alone. She bought it so that she might keep it for the day of my burial. You always have the poor with you, but you do not always have me.“ When the great crowd of the Jews learned that he was there, they came not only because of Jesus but also to see Lazarus, whom he had raised from the dead. So the chief priests planned to put Lazarus to death as well, since it was on account of him that many of the Jews were deserting and were believing in Jesus.
I was at our Parish Church at Palmer Road yesterday morning for the beginning of Holy Week and the priest blessed the palms. Three people read the Passion of Christ at the time of the Gospel. I concelebrated Holy Mass with the Parish Priest. We will be busy this week and we will be in church every day from Thursday until Sunday. I am praying that the Lord will give us all a special blessing on Easter Sunday.
(Below you will find the message of Our Lord and Redeemer given to Father Melvin. Jesus spoke to him these words):
“Be with Me this week, My brother Melvin and all My brothers and sisters who accept Me as your Savior. This was the week I accomplished the work that My Heavenly Father sent Me to do. Already Mary Magdalene anointed My feet and this was the only anointing I received. She was preparing Me for My burial. Of course Judas objected that this expensive perfume should be used in this way. His objection was not valid because he was a thief.
Come, My dear friends, and read the passages that deal with My last days on earth before My death on the cross. I knew very well what was to happen to Me but I came on earth not to do My own will but the will of My Father in heaven. I also want all of you to offer yourselves totally to the Father as I did. You are here to imitate Me by doing the will of the Father every day. If you suffer anything, offer it up to the Father and to Me for the conversion of the people of the world. Your suffering offered to the Father with My suffering is very effective in bringing many people to believe in Me and follow Me. I bless you all.”
