The Similes of Salt and Light
A reading from the Gospel of Saint Matthew 5, 13 – 20:
“You are the salt of the earth. But if salt losed its taste, with what can it be seasoned? It is no longer good for anything but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot. You are the light of the world. A city set on a mountain cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and then put it under a bushel baskets; it is set on a lampstand, where it gives light to all in the house. Just so, your light must shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your heavenly Father.
Do not think that I have come to abolish the law or the prophets. I have come not to abolish but to fulfill. Amen, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest letter or the smallest part of a letter will pass from the law, until all things have taken place. Therefore, whoever breaks one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do so will be called least in the kingdom of heaven. But whoever obeys and teaches these commandments with be called greatest in the kingdom of heaven. I tell you, unless your righteousness surpasses that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will not enter into the kingdom of heaven.”
We had a little bit of snow today Thursday but no great amount. The sun did come out in the afternoon and it was mild. The snow melted on the roads and around the house. We are supposed to have a little bit of snow on Friday but then we should have a full week of sunshine. I thank the Lord for the beautiful sunshine.
Below you will find the message of Our Lord and Savior given to Father Melvin. Jesus spoke to him these words,
“I have called you My brother Melvin and all My brothers and sisters who believe in Me the salt of the earth. I also called you the light of the world. What does this mean? With these words I wish to show you how you should act as My followers. Whoever meets you should see that you believe in Me and you love Me. You are to bring My light to all the people you meet. Speak to them about the love I have for them and how I showed when I was on earth this love. I came on earth to teach you the truth about the Kingdom of God and how I wish that every one of you would be part of My Kingdom. I took all your sins on Myself and suffered and died on the cross to pay the price for all your sins. Live in union with Me and be a teacher to all those you meet. Also be a person of prayer praying for the conversion and all unbelievers that they may come to believe in Me and live according to My teachings.
I did not come on earth to do away with the commandments and with the prophecy of the prophets. No, I came on earth that these be accomplished by every one of you. How can you follow Me if you live a life of sin? No, you are to follow all the commandments of God with My help. Ask Me every day for the graces and strength you need to keep all the commandments and you will be blessed. In this way you will be holy and one day you will be in heaven with Me. I bless you all.”
